EBN: How to Help the Afghan Evacuee Resettlement in Massachusetts
There is an urgent need to help resettle 400 Afghans who have recently been evacuated to the United States.
Ascentria Care Alliance (https://www.ascentria.org/), which empowers people of all backgrounds to rise together and reach beyond life's challenges, is one of the organizations charged with helping this important cause.
Ascentria urgently needs volunteers and other resources to help meet a variety of these new arrivals’ needs. The evacuees are currently living on military bases and will be heading to MA in a matter of days and weeks. In many cases, they were airlifted out of Afghanistan with only a small backpack and the clothes on their backs.
Volunteers from across the state are needed to perform a variety of tasks, including: inspecting potential housing units to ensure that they conform to Ascentria’s safety and cleanliness standards, transporting furniture and other essentials to the housing units, neighborhood teams that will provide support such as orienting individuals to the community, driving individuals to appointments, and planning and running donation drives and much more.
Also needed are tradespeople such as plumbers, electricians and carpenters who can be called upon to make repairs to some of the units as needed. In addition, Ascentria needs technology and project management support to help manage the program.
Join us on Sept 29 at 10:00 to learn about this urgent need, how you can help or how someone you know might be able to offer support. This is a short-term project through which we can assist evacuees put in a difficult position through no fault of their own.
