It’s tempting to rip 2020 off the calendar right now. COVID-19 is raging through our nation leaving a path of destruction that disproportionately affects people of color and older adults. Social inequities pound at our sense and sensibility. Racial injustice, always present, explodes into view as we repeatedly witness incomprehensible violence that leaves a hole in our hearts and a yearning to do better. This virtual session will feature our own Bren Atchison, Encore Public Voices Fellow, and Brittany Bare, founder of My Life, My Stories, talking with two storytellers about how their personal experiences this year have shaped their intentions to fight racial injustice next year. You’ll also have a chance to brainstorm ways to fight systemic racism through intergenerational collaboration and grassroots efforts. Offered by Encore.org and My Life, My Stories.

Virtual volunteering is a credible, widespread practice that‘s more than 35 years old, and thousands of programs have been involving many thousands of online volunteers in that time in a variety of roles, from short-term microtasks to long-term high-responsibility leadership roles. This workshop will help you identify virtual volunteering that‘s already been happening at your program (surprise!) and to quickly introduce and expand virtual volunteering, with a focus on re-engaging your traditional volunteers who have had to stay away from your organization because of the global pandemic. Facilitated by Jane Cravens. Offered by Massachusetts Service Alliance.
